How to use ModelImporter in XEN 2.0

Nov 30, 2012 at 11:11 AM

We're students in game programming and we just start to use Xen in a XBox Project.

We're trying to import our models with Xen but we didn't find how to do this.

Can you help us please ?

For now, we try to use ModelImporter class but our solution say that an assembly reference is missing.

What we've done :

Add reference "Xen.Ex.ModelImporter" to the main project

Add "using Xen.Ex.ModelImporter;"

Add "ModelImporter testModelImport;"

and here the compilator says that ModelImporter is not in the Xen.Ex namespace.

Can we make it work ? Or we are wrong trying to use the ModelImporter to import fbx models in the game ? Is there another way ?

Thanks a lot for your answers and thanks for the tutorials !

You're best bet is to look at some of the other tutorials in the Xen project.

I don't exactly understand how you're planning to use the ModelImporter, but if you're trying to use it in the runtime game executable, that won't work. ModelImporter is supposed to be used as part of the content processor code where you assign an fbx model to be exported using the content processor "Model - Xen". Once a model is exported using this content processor, then you can load it in the runtime code.

If you don't know what I'm talking about, then you'd probably want to read up on how XNA is supposed to work before attempting to use Xen.

Thanks a lot

I will transmit your answer to my programmer and try to do like that.

I'll tell you if we succeed !

Thanks again.
